There is often a single image that people see when they picture an executive. An executive is often seen as a man who is very eloquent and extroverted. He has been in business his whole life, has always known what he has wanted to be, and is capable of making people like him right away. While this might be the case for several CEOs out there, Lori Senecal definitely breaks this mold.
Lori Senecal was born and raised in a small town in Canada. She had a very humble upbringing and had to fight with three other siblings for her parents’ attention. When she was finally able to go to college, she went to McGill University in Montreal. However, she had no inkling of what she wanted to be, even after her first year of classes. When she started to take business classes, however, she knew that marketing was the way to go.
According to crunchbase after graduating with a degree in Commerce, Marketing, and Finance, Senecal joined a small advertising agency and quickly learned that she would have to become much more comfortable talking to people. She would often work with large accounts that required her to talk in from of hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of clients. According to Lori in an interview with Campus US, she had always been an introvert with people she did not know, and she had to be able to change that if she was going to be successful.
Lori quickly gained traction at work. After she started working for McCann Worldgroup she quickly became the co-founder of TAG Ideation and the Global Chief Innovation Officer. She used this role to springboard herself into the President role of McCann in New York. There she was seen as a pioneer in innovation and a thought leader in the industry. From McCann she joined another advertising agency called Kirshenbaum, Bond, Senecal, and Partners in 2009 as the President and CEO. At KBS, she really showed the industry just how different from the typical CEO she could be.
At KBS+, Senecal changed how things were done. She no longer wanted the Company to be run as just another global network of advertisers. These, she thought, had too much of a hierarchy, which stifled creativity. She implemented these ideals and led KBS+ to very successful years while she was in charge in a report by PRNewsWire.
Lori Senecal is not your typical CEO. She is very shy, she comes from a very humble upbringing, and she did not know what she wanted to do with her life until she was into her 20s. However, she knows how to innovate and work with people, and that thrust her into the successful career she is in today. She is currently the CEO of CP+B, and she is showing no signs of slowing down.
